I wanted to talk about something a bit more serious today. Not that my posts are not serious in general but this one hits close to home.
Being involuntary exposed to it on social media and guilty of doing it to myself from time to time, I feel like I need to speak up.
Whilst most people know what Body-Shaming is, and the majority is against it, I can’t help but notice how big of an issue it has become online. It can go from “I wouldn’t wear this if I were you” to “you’re too fat for this dress” or “you’re too skinny, you need a burger”. From passive aggressive comments to insults, social media offer an immense variety of body-shaming comments.
Why would you choose to take that extra step of looking at a stranger’s Instagram/Youtube account and spread hate ?
Is it for the giggle, to attract attention or because you’re yourself not all that confident about your body ?
We all know how hard it is, to feel comfortable in your own skin and to find the courage to “put yourself out there”. For some people it comes naturally but for me, it was a struggle all through my teenage years.
Some will argue that if you choose to be online, you should learn to accept strangers being nasty and just brush it off.
Am I the only one who thinks this is extremely flawed logic ?
I am one of those who think that if you have nothing nice to say, don’t say nothing at all.
And I want to let you know guys that my blog is a safe place. I encourage constructive criticism and will always welcome your thoughts but I will not tolerate any discriminatory & racist comments.
