Can you stay body positive if you want to lose weight ?

Hi Everyone,

Where do I even start ?

Being body positive is loving your body at any size. It does not matter if you are skinny – thin – overweight or whatever. It comes from an understanding and a profound appreciation of what you got going for you.

You can definitely love your body and what you look like and want to lose weight.

“Dieting” or getting into a different lifestyle in order to lose weight does not necessarily come from a place of hate. Accepting your body regardless of size is already a step towards a happier and a healthier you.

Let’s use my story as an example.

I used to be severely anorexic. The dieting started at 15-16 years old, I was extremely unhappy with my body and I got over my eating disorder around 20-21 years old.

Was I happy when I was a size 10 ? No.

Was I happy when I was a size 2 ? You guessed it. No, I wasn’t.

Thanks to my beautiful family, I got the medical and emotional support I needed and at 23 years old, I can finally say that I am happy with my body. I am happy to see how far I have come and how strong my body has gotten despite everything I have put it through.

I am far from perfect and I still have off days. We all have our insecurities and they make us beautifully human.

If you have been / you are a believer in body positivity and you decide to lose weight, you still are body positive. I can not stress this enough.

Lots of Kisses

Alicia

Personally, my journey in health and fitness is an act of self-love. I have mended my relationship with my body tremendously just by treating it well. I don’t eat foods that make me feel sick, and I workout everyday because when I don’t, I really feel a negative difference. I don’t focus on the scale or inches, but even if I was actively trying to lose weight, I would still consider the habits I have to be body positive. I treat every workout and meal as a way to support my own body.

  2. I love this post. For me the question is a simple one. Do I want to lose weight because I hate my body or because I love my body? If the answer is hate, that’s not body positivity. But if the answer is love, then that’s self loving, self compassionate and totally body positive!!!
