One Sweet Sweet Summer Tart

Hi Everyone, I hope you are all doing well. Here I am, with another recipe. For this one, you will need: White peaches (I used 5) 2 red apples Half a bowl of strawberry A spoonful of lemon juice Shortcrust pastry (1) Optional: a spoonful of cane sugar Cut all your fruits, it doesn’t need to be pretty, it just needs to be small. Put them all in a bowl together with the lemon juice and the sugar if you wish to use it. Be careful tho, the three fruits together are very sweet so it will depend on how sugary you like your desserts. For the crust, I did my usual routine, pierced little tiny holes with a fork all over the bottom, cooked it for 10 mins alone in the oven. Fruits together release a lot of liquid and you want to make sure that your bottom is not soggy. Once the crust was ready, I added the fruits, put the tart in the oven on 190° for 25 mins. I like to …

This giveaway is open to people in Europe, I will contact the winner personally and provide tracking info once everything has been sent out. Make sure …

What I ate in Paris: Vegan & Vegetarian

Hi Everyone, How are you all doing? FYI, the post is entirely made of pictures of food. I try to cook most of my meals and take advantage of my parents’ beautiful kitchen as much as I can. PS: of course I haven’t photographed ALL of my meals. The pictures below are just a tiny sample of what I made for myself and my family, from my week in Paris. What have you been up to? Ali

Sweet Tofu with Noodles & Vegetables

Hi Everyone, I hope you are all doing fantastic. I have another recipe for you! I am sure I haven’t invented anything but I wanted to share with you what I managed to create with leftovers a week ago or so. I had a really hard time for some reasons to find the Tofu in Carrefour ( an equivalent of Asda I guess in France) but the rest of the ingredients was patiently waiting for me at home. For this quick & easy summer lunch you will need: Agave syrup: two soup spoons Sesame seeds: one coffee spoon Tofu: I used 250g for my sister and me Noodles: Rice noodles would be ideal in my opinion (but I used egg noodles) Salt&P, some crushed garlic, a drizzle of olive oil Soy sauce Peppers: mine were already cooked (we used 2) Onions: one is more than enough I cooked my sliced peppers and my onion together with the spices, olive oil and a glass of water for about 15 mins. Whilst the vegetables were cooking, I …

June & the Blog: Picking items for the Giveaway

Hi Everyone, I hope you are all doing amazing. I am currently in Paris visiting my family and friends and I thought that it was the perfect time to finally announce when the giveaway would be happening and give you a chance to choose (from the list of items I have talked about before on the blog) what you would like in it. I am pushing back the giveaway to the end of June because I have tons of stuff to do in Paris, I have to start my dissertation, I will be leaving for Barcelona in about two weeks and I want to make sure I buy products that are in line with what I like, what you would like and my blog. The giveaway will be open for one week and all of Europe. To participate, you will just have to be subscribed to my blog and comment anything under the giveaway post. I wish I could include more of you. Hopefully, some future changes will allow me to do so. I was initially thinking …

Sephora cruelty-free list: A-J

Hi Everyone, How are you? This post will be in two parts as I have other posts I want to write before the end of the month (and going through the whole damn website also takes ages). Let’s just get into it, shall we! Amazing Cosmetics Official statement: AmazingCosmetics has always maintained a commitment to being cruelty-free, and has never tested any of its ingredients or finished products on animals. BUT, and I know that it can be a big but for some. The company sold its products in China until 2015. However, the brand decided to discontinue its line in China and consider itself 100% cruelty-free now. Vegan products: Check products in store as the website does not provide any information. Amore Pacific Official Statement: AMOREPACIFIC has voluntarily discontinued animal testing on cosmetic ingredients and finished goods since 2008. And as of May 1, 2013, we expanded the non-animal testing policy to our suppliers. AMOREPACIFIC brand is sold in Hong Kong, not in mainland China. Tofu Burger Recipe

Hi Everyone, How are you? Last recipe for a little while. I hope you like them. Let me know which one is your favorite (if you have one). For this recipe, you will need: Tofu Sweet peppers (two) Mushrooms Buns (brioche buns were the perfect fit) Cheese (optional, I grabbed my favorite vegan cheese, garlic&herb at Whole Foods) Rocket Salad Olives (optional, I just love them) I cut my mushrooms and my peppers, cooked them in sesame oil for about five mins. Grabbed my brioche buns and instead of warming them up in a pan like I usually do, I put them in my waffle maker. They turned out perfectly crispy I was so happy you guys! As you can see, the piece of Tofu I got from Whole Foods is HUGE (you get two of them in a box, already cooked and grilled for £2.99) and I just warmed it up with the vegetables. I believe the pictures are explicit enough and the whole thing doesn’t need a proper recipe. The garlic and herb …

Veggie Pasta Bake

Hi Everyone, I hope you are all doing great. Welcome to the second recipe of this three parts thingy I am doing right now on the blog. PS: I just wanted to address something quickly. I have been nominated for two blogging “awards” since I did my 7 days challenge. I wanted to thank everyone who took the time to nominate me and check out my blog. Whilst I don’t have time to do them all, it doesn’t go unnoticed and I’m more than grateful. For this recipe, you will need: Pasta Mushrooms (one box) Carrots (I used three) Shallots (one or two) Courgette (half of one) Alpro cream Mustard Cut your veggies, cook the mushrooms and shallot on the side and the carrots and courgette in water. Since everything is gonna go in the oven, I would suggest to not cook your pasta and mushrooms entirely. Since everything is gonna go in the oven, I would suggest to not cook your pasta and mushrooms entirely. Once everything is done, move on to the cream. In a …

One easy Vegan Recipe

Hi Everyone, How are you all doing? I initially wanted to dedicate one post to three vegan recipes but it was honestly way too long. So I hope you don’t mind because you’ll be getting recipes for a week. I have been cooking more and more. I love grilled tofu, fake chicken, vegan cheese etc. We are a match in heaven. So I spent one week in March cooking every single night and I would like to share my three favorite recipes with you. Vegan Couscous You will need: Chickpeas (2 cans) Carrots (2) Courgette (1) Couscous (150g) Fake chicken (optional, can be replaced by tofu) Harissa Tumeric Cumin Tabasco Salt&Pepper So I cut all my vegetables first. Whilst I cooked them in water, I took my chickpeas (already cooked) and put them for 2 mins in the microwave. Once my vegetables were a bit softer, I added all my spices, except the Harissa and my chickpeas. I brought down the heat, covered it up and moved on to my fake meat and couscous. I threw the meat …

April Poll and An update

Hi Everyone, I hope you are all doing okay. I wanted to sit down and talk to you about the coming months on the blog. I will give it to you straight: I will have to take some time off. I wanted to schedule posts to keep the blog alive but it’s gonna depend on how I am feeling and the amount of work I’ll have to do for my exams. I will try to write one blog post a week and we will, of course, celebrate my one year blog anniversary (coming up very soon). But with my Master’s dissertation, my schedule will have to change. I am passionate about everything customer and marketing related and this dissertation is what I need to gain some credibility work wise. So I am asking you guys, what do you want to see on the blog this month? I figured that since I would post once a week, I could go back to doing what I was doing when I first started: “A week without” or fun …

Promote your lovely blog

Hi Everyone, How are you all doing? I said that I would do another PYB so here we are. The last “Promote your blog” was awesome. I got a bunch of comments, I met my first guest poster and followed some awesome new bloggers who I wouldn’t have met without the post. So as you know, there are no rules. You do not have to follow me on here or on Twitter or Instagram. If you want to promote your blog and yourself, feel free to write something down below with a link to your blog and I’ll check you out. I have been following a lot of cruelty-free makeup lovers and vegans on here. I would love to get to know more of you of course but if you (or know a blogger who) write about books, movies, and fitness, I’d love love love to hear from you (them) especially. I’ll keep it short and end it here. Remember, my email veggieoverseas@gmail.com is always open. As always, if you’re interested in writing for the blog, …

A day and a half in Bournemouth

Hi Everyone, How are you? I said I would have this post up by the end of the week and I do! I finally managed to find time to sit down on Friday night and gather all the pretty pictures I took last weekend. Bournemouth was actually a surprise from me to my boyfriend. I wanted to do something nice before our busy exam period (coming up in two weeks until the end of May) and a quick trip next to the sea sounded like the perfect idea. I found the hotel on lastminute.com, booked the cheapest bus tickets I could find and we left around noon on Friday morning. The bus trip was relatively pleasant, 2h45 mins which felt like half an hour since I spent most of the ride sleeping. The Hotel is located a short walk away from the coach station (15 mins to 20 mins if you take your time), 5 mins away from the beach and 10 mins away from the city center. I was very excited to stay …

Easy Courgette Spaghetti

Hi Everyone, I hope you like this one because I was so proud when I put it together. You know that I advocate easy, quick recipes and late-night snacking. Ingredients: Courgette Spaghetti (Tesco) Oregano, Garlic, Soy Sauce, Crushed Chili Vegetable stock Olive oil Vegan sausages Truffle mustard As always, I love when I can just go my ingredients in a pan and serve a great dish 10 mins later. For this recipe, I started with throwing spaghetti and bean sprouts in a pan together with oregano, garlic, chili, a spoonful of olive oil and my vegetable stock. I added two glasses of water, covered the pan with a plate and moved on to my vegan sausages. My all time favorite, you may already know, are the vegan sausages from the Linda McCartney’s brand. I mixed soy sauce and mustard together. Dunk my sausages (4 out of the 6) in the mix and put them in the oven (180°) for 15 mins. This dish honestly takes 15 mins from start to finish. The spaghetti and bean sprouts …

My favorite vegetarian/vegan snacks

Hi Everyone, I hope you are doing well. Today is just going to be a quick post because I felt like sharing what I’ve been eating lately. I will post a quick and healthy recipe soon but in the meantime, I hope this one gives you some ideas! I usually buy all my snacks at Tesco. Holland&Barrett, Planet Organic, Boots snacks I bought were all impulse purchases. I don’t regret them, don’t get me wrong, but Tesco, and even my uni shop have some great affordable vegan/vegetarian snack options. Eat Real Chips I know that you can find them at Wholefoods, H&B and Planet Organic. I have seen them over there for over a pound whilst my uni food shop sells them for £0,49. Strong incentive for me to go to ALL my classes. Graze – Veggie Protein Powder This is what I eat before the gym or in the morning when I am in a rush. I have thought about purchasing bigger portions on Graze’s website but I like the ritual of going to Tesco, getting my bottle of …

My favorite Central London vegan and vegetarian pizzas (so far)

Hi Everyone, Guess what? It is FOOD TIME. Yes!Finally! I had a great Veganuary, I cooked a lot and felt great. I have recently enjoyed my first pizza of February 2017 (because trust me, there will be many more) and I thought: “Hm, who do I want to share my love for pizzas with?” So here you go, just for you, the best pizzas you can get in Central London, that I have personally tested and loved. PS: I will make update posts as the list goes on but for now, as I live in Central London, I’ll focus on what you can get over there. FRANCO MANCA – PIZZA 1 AND PIZZA 2 I love love love, love love, Franco Manca. I have talked about it before and I will not stop. I had both the vegetarian pizza and the vegan pizza without any added toppings. The crust and the dough are what makes their pizzas so f****** good. I don’t know how to describe it but the dough light in texture and strong in …

Best body washes, body scrubs, body everything for animal lovers (and everyone else) + 500 followers

I know, I know. This post should have gone up earlier this month.  I just have been a bit annoyed at myself for many reasons and haven’t been updating the blog much. For this, I apologize and I hope you won’t hold it against me. The blog has reached over 500 followers and I wanted to thank all of you for commenting, liking and getting to know me on here. I wish I could do a giveaway for you guys. Some of you have been here from the beginning and I see all of you! (but for real, do you want me to organize a giveaway?) Original Sources Body Washes I am sure, if you live in England, that you have come across Original Source before. The brand is everywhere: Tesco – Boots – Superdrug. Every time I am out of Body Shop shower products, I run back to Original Source. Their shower gels are cheap (£1.80 with Tesco), you can find them anywhere in central London, and they are vegan. My favorite scents are Limes, …

My favorite cruelty-free skincare products (so far)

Hi Everyone, I want to do a full cruelty-free makeup routine soon and I thought, why not show you some of my favorite skincare products first. I wanted to include bath & body products as well but I have so many that I will write a full post about it (probably before February). Let’s just jump into it, shall we? Simple Soothing Facial Toner & Revitalising eye roll-on I have, to be honest. I had never used toners before this one. I just did not see the point of using them. I was afraid that it would make my skin super dry. My forehead and chin are oily I am very dry around my mouth and nose. I don’t use the toner every day, more like three times a week, right before bed, and I do have noticed a difference. I don’t know if it is the work of the toner only, but my skin looks younger and tighter. So If you are looking for a natural toner that will not damage your skin, try this one. …

I tried a vegan Galette des rois

Hi Everyone, I hope you are all doing amazing. If you don’t know, la galette des Rois is a tradition in France. We celebrate right after New Year’s Eve (another excuse to eat more). I tried to go to several French bakeries in London but couldn’t find anything. My original plan was to buy one galette for my friends and make a small one for myself (since I am doing Veganuary). I found this super cute french vegan blog with a recipe and I decided to give it a try. I will add the original recipe at the end of the post and try to translate it for you guys as best as I can. You will need: 2 puff pastry sheets (made without butter) 200g of crushed almond 40g of vegan butter 80g of sugar 60g of coconut oil (optional for me since I already had the vegan butter) 100g of soya cream 5 cL of soya milk (I used almond milk) The recipe is the easiest (I recognized I got rid of some stuff and added others). You …

Merry Christmas !

Hi Everyone, I know I am a bit late but I wanted to wish you all a wonderful Christmas. I had the chance to be with my family today and take the day off from work. I got some money to buy my first real camera so if it works out, I will definitely let you know. I will be celebrating Christmas tomorrow as well but with my best friends this time. I do not know what’s on the menu yet but they have accepted to try some of my vegan/vegetarian dishes so I am excited ! Also, I will be participating in Veganuary. It will be my first time ever so if you have done it before, please let me know how it went. If you have some tips, I would love to hear them. I will leave you with some pictures of the food I have eaten today ! I hope to see you all next year ! My Instagram Lots of Kisses Alicia

MONKI MAKE UP – EYELINERS EDITION

I have to say, I had no idea MONKI actually had makeup. I always shop online on ASOS or go to the MONKI Store on Carnaby Street but I had never ever bothered looking at the “accessories” and beauty section. Before five days ago. So you know me, when I saw the eyeliners ( on sale ), I could not help myself and immediately went online to get more information. And by more information, I mean : Is MONKI cruelty-free ? And it seems like it is guys. As per their website and FAQ : Our policy is not to test our make up on animals, so no, no it isn’t! However, be careful if you are looking for exclusively vegan makeup products. I looked on Facebook and here is what they have to say about vegan products : We’re proud to say that all Monki make-up is 100% cruelty-free. We have a strict policy not to test our products on animals. However, we can’t guarantee that our make-up is or will always be vegan. …

I need your help !

Hi loves, I hope you are all doing okay. I would really appreciate it if you could participate in the poll I created down below. I have been really interested in people going “dairy-free” lately and I was wondering if big brands like Nescafe Dolce Gusto could launch capsules with milk alternatives. Your opinion does matter to me and the more answers I get, the more I will be able to contact brands and understand why such alternatives haven’t been introduced yet. Lots of love Alicia

What is the best policy when it comes to animal cruelty ?

Hi Everyone, I hope you are doing fantastic. I want to chat with you all about something that has been bugging me lately. You probably don’t know but I am a post graduate student in marketing and I love love love content creation and analyzing any content that comes my way. Whilst I am not really active on Twitter and Facebook ( I mostly retweet and like ), I am still on it every day, constantly connected, watching what’s going on and scrolling through an enormous amount of posts and information. I do follow PETA on Twitter just because I like to know what’s happening in “my world”, and PETA is also one of the most regular vegan news/ animal cruelty related account that I have found so far. I do have to say something. I do not appreciate being exposed to violent/gory videos of animals being tortured and killed. I understand the idea behind it and the shock value they are striving for but it is not the best way to go. In my …

What is the difference between Vegan & Cruelty-Free MakeUp ?

Hi Everyone, I thought I would pop on here to share some important information with you guys. I know that some people think that because a product is cruelty-free, it is automatically vegan. Unfortunately, this is not the case. Cruelty-Free defines a makeup product which has never ever been tested on animals from A to Z. This includes the product as a whole but also the ingredients. For example, people tend to think that L’Oreal is cruelty-free when in fact, the brand has been misleading its customers. “The Group no longer tests on animal, anywhere in the world, and does not delegate this task to others. An exception could be made if regulatory authorities required it for safety or regulatory purposes.” ( taken from L’Oreal website FAQ page ). For more deception, please check out this amazing post from Cruelty Free Kitty. A product which hasn’t been tested on animals doesn’t mean that it does not contain animal ingredients such as beeswax. If you have a look at your packaging and it says : gelatin, …

11 Vegan options from London Restaurants that are better than Sex

I was reading Grace Francesca  yesterday and I burst out laughing. Her post on 26 things better than sex was hilarious and way too real. I thought I would do the same with vegan food from restaurants in London which have given me some major orgasms over the past two years. ( I am not sponsored and I have personally tested every single thing on this list. I would never recommend what I don’t believe in ! ) Franco Manca vegan pizza. Happiness for under £5.00. Benito’s Hat spicy mushroom burrito. If you like burritos, Chilango is usually the way to go. But Benito’s Hat is slowly winning my heart with this one. Busaba Eathai and its amazing Pad Thai Jay. A must eat for Thai food lovers. Five Guys Cajun Fries. I honestly don’t care what anyone says. The best burgers are from GBK and Shake Shack and the best fries are from Five Guys. Spicy and cooked in peanut oil ! Pixxa Grilled Peppers & Herbs pizza. Pricey for a pizza but huge and delicious. Perfect …

Saucy Sausage Pasta ( Vegan )

Hi Everyone, I hope you are well. I am on a roll. Three recipes in a week. A miracle ! But also what most of you requested so I am more than happy to oblige. Today is going to be an easy one (no shit ) and a tribute to my Italian ancestors. For this amazing vegan pasta recipe, you will need  A pack of whole wheat spaghetti  A can of chopped tomatoes ( read it to make sure it is 100% vegan )  Red Wine ( optional, I had some left and I remembered my dad using it to make spaghetti & meatballs so I thought, what the hell ) Minced garlic  Salt & Pepper & Oregano  Red Onions ( optional ) Vegan Sausages ( I picked up mine at Tesco ) For the sauce, warm up your pan, throw one spoonful of olive oil, your can of chopped tomatoes, your sliced red onion, half a cup of water, two spoonful of minced garlic. Cover it all up, put on a 20 mins timer and move on …

Easy Vegan Rice & Vegetable Recipe

I am back with another recipe ! And it’s easier than the last one ! If they keep getting easier each time, I soon won’t have enough material for an article. For this easy(ish) vegan recipe you will need : Rice ( Brown, Long, Short, White ) Vegetables ( your favorite )  Soy Sauce  (Sesame Seeds) Hot Sauce Olive Oil  Salt&Pepper  Minced Garlic Cook your rice and set it aside whilst you take care of the vegetables and sauce Make the sauce : In a bowl, pour one spoonful of olive oil, one spoonful of soy sauce, drops of hot sauce, and as much minced garlic as you want. I added the salt and pepper at the end as the recipe already had soy sauce and a peppery hot sauce. Throw your vegetables in the pan and wait for them to cook a little bit. Add a tiny bit of water and pour your sauce. Cover it up, lower the temperature and put on a timer. I like my vegetables crunchy, especially carrots, so I always tend …

The Triple T : Tofu Tandoori Treat

Hi Guys, Guess what ? My laptop broke down. Right after I promised you I would post two to three times a week. I hope you are all doing okay. I had the chance to look at the poll and it is going great. I will include it at the end of the post so if you have five seconds to spare, check it out ! For this easy, spicy and 3Ts recipe, you will need : Noodles ( Egg noodles would be amazing with the dish for vegetarians ) Tofu  Tandori Masala dry mix ( got mine from Amazon ) Vegetables of your choice /Vegetables Stir-Fry Sesame Seeds Salt&Pepper&Soy sauce While you wait for your water to boil, carefully take out the tofu, drain the water and cut it into small pieces. Tofu, especially the one I bought from Marks&Spencer, is very hard to cut without it liquefying,  so be careful. If you look at the pictures I took, my tofu was very scrambled. Take out another pan, throw a spoonful of olive oil and your tofu …

Let’s catch up !

Hi Everyone, How are you ? How did you like my rainbow tart ? I just wanted to give you a little life update. The blog has been doing very well lately and I have tons of ideas. As most of you have noticed, I still do recipes and cruelty-free makeup but I also want to include more fashion, music and all that jazz. I am a post graduate student in Business Management & Marketing and will also be working for another startup very soon. So life will get busier but I want and WILL post at least twice a week.  I am vegetarian out but completely vegan at home which is a huge change for me as I used to eat vegetarian pretty much all the time. I will make another “What I eat in a day” post this week or the next just to give you an idea of what I have been cooking & eating.  I have been very lazy lately and my only form of exercise has been walking to uni and …

Easy Lentil & Rice Curry

I have been so inspired by Fall lately that I had to put together this quick recipe for you ! It is full of flavor, high in protein and will keep you full throughout the day. For this quick recipe, you will need : Red or Green Lentils Brown Rice Curry Powder Coconut milk Chili Powder One red onion Green peas Salt & Pepper So I bet you all know how to cook lentils & rice. Throw them both in the pan with some salt, cover it up and check on it once in a while to avoid overcooking and transforming it into a mushy mess. For the curry sauce, grab another pan and heat it up with some coconut or olive oil. Once it is warm, pour the coconut milk with curry powder and chili powder. Keep stirring when you add the ingredients, to make sure the taste is even and avoid any chunks. Add the onions, peas and whatever leftover veggies you might find in your fridge. I added the salt & pepper …

Amazon Pantry : Hit or Miss ?

Hi Everyone, I have something a bit different for you today. I ordered food with Amazon ! Not uncommon I know but I thought it would be a fun experience and I also wanted to compare the prices between my regular grocery shopping at Tesco and a regular grocery shopping with Amazon. To order with Amazon Pantry, you have to be subscribed to Amazon prime. From there, you have access to the amazon pantry with a good range of products from different supermarkets. This was the part I was most interested in because I mostly shop at Tesco. It is not the cheapest but it is convenient as I live in Central London and wouldn’t be caught dead walking more than 15 mins for groceries. Before we get into my Amazon pantry experience, I just wanted to give you a little reminder of what I usually buy. I spend between £30 to £35 on groceries a week. I buy mostly vegan/vegetarian products and lots of fresh and frozen fruits and vegetables. Amazon pantry does not offer vegetables, fruits …

Diet or Lifestyle ?

Hi Everyone, How is it going ? As you all know, I spend a lot of time online. As a freelance translator and lover of good content, I read a lot of articles and watch my fair share of videos on pretty much everything. From Casey Neistat to Buzzfeed videos, vegan recipes and crazy makeup tutorials, I read a lot of comments. Whilst I try to stay away from the comment section on YouTube and its unbelievable negativity in general, I can’t help but get annoyed when I come across certain comments. I will often read : “vegetarianism is a diet not a lifestyle” “veganism is a lifestyle not a diet”. Now don’t get me wrong, expressing your opinion is perfectly fine, as long as you don’t talk down to someone for having a different opinion and don’t spread or encourage hate. If you read my articles, I use the words diet and lifestyle all the time to talk about vegetarianism and veganism because, in my opinion, it is not something to stress about. But after reading …

What I eat in a day #4 Vegetarian

Hey everyone, How are you ? I would like to apologise for the lack of posts. I write about things I am passionate about / like and I would feel like I am not being true to myself if I would prioritize quantity over quality. I would like to thank everyone who voted and would like to remind you that the poll is still up on the blog. I will look at all the answers at the end of next week. If you haven’t voted already, please check it out ! If you are annoyed at the lack of posts, I have a Tumblr and a Twitter and I try to post more regularly on there ( especially Tumblr ). I am completely new to Twitter but I will get the hang of it eventually. It could be a nice way for us to interact as I would love to get to know you all a little better. Food wise, today was pretty uneventful. I did not cook ( I know, shocking ) but ate …

Economy & Vegetarianism

Hi Everyone, My friend mentioned that one of his colleagues was vegetarian. Not for ethical reasons, but because vegetarianism would, allegedly, be a cheaper and more sustainable diet. I have to admit that coming from a middle class family, growing up without a care in the world and having more than enough food from breakfast to dinner, this had never crossed my mind. Becoming vegetarian was a mix of “I hate red meat anyway” and later on, realizing how much suffering goes into the meat production which is something I decided I didn’t want to be a part of anymore. Maybe the transitioning was made easier for me because I had access to all the food options, but what about those who don’t ? Have you ever thought that people might be giving up meat because they want to reduce the cost of their groceries ? Let’s just search the web for more answers together. When I typed in ” economic vegetarianism”, here is what I found : An economic vegetarian is a person who practices vegetarianism …

A week on Huel – Can I live off liquid for a week ?

Hi Everyone, Today is Monday and you know what that means. Well, nothing really since I upload so randomly.  But I hope you all had a great weekend. I thought that today I would do something different as I have some time to write, do some research and chill at home. Do you remember my first post about vegan snacks ? I quickly mentioned Huel. Now keep in mind that the post was written over a month ago. I had just discovered Huel and was definitely obsessed with how convenient it was. I was having one Huel a day maybe for breakfast with fruits or as a post-workout snack. I never really tried it as a “real” meal replacement. Since then, I have not been using it. Mostly because I have been away. I opened my cupboards this morning and saw that I had half a bag left and a chocolate flavor sachet. Awesome. So I guess this week is the week. I will be having Huel for breakfast – lunch and diner. For five days. Five days only, …

Vegan / Vegetarian and serving meat ?

Hi Everyone, How are you today ? I haven’t posted in three days again and it feels like a lifetime. I have not been too inspired lately. I did go to diner with one of my good friends here in London. We went to this Vegetarian South Indian Restaurant called Sagar which I love because they will also pack you doggy bags. A plus if you tend to over-order like me. The post for today will just be a quick rant. This is something I hear a lot and I wanted to write about it for anybody who may feel bad because of it. It is totally understandable to be vegetarian or vegan and to work in a restaurant that serves meat. People who tell you otherwise need a reality check.Whether you consider being vegetarian or vegan a diet or a lifestyle, it has nothing to do with your job. Sure we would love to all be working our favorite job or having enough money to be able to travel and help the animals, or do more activism. Hell, …

Living with A Meat Eater ? Scandalous !

Hi Everyone, I hope you are all having a lovely day!  So many things have been happening lately ! I just got back from Paris and I had to say goodbye to my beautiful family and my comfy house. Also, I have been playing Pokemon Go. But only from my bed. Got to level 6 pretty much without moving which is pretty impressive if you ask me. I have also been staying at home these past two days, writing and catching up on everything I left on the side. I did get up to go grocery shopping for the week yesterday and I realized that I had to buy enough food for two. Yes, I do not live alone ( who does in London really ). And the person who lives with me is not vegetarian or vegan. He eats meat. Red meat, poultry and fish. It has never been an issue for us. If you have a look at my previous articles, I am pretty understanding and will certainly not judge you for not eating the way you do …

Clean Eating’s Dirty Secret – BBC documentary review

Hi Everyone, I just finished watching the BBC new documentary on clean eating and I have to say that it was quite interesting. There were a lot of comments regarding the content and Grace the Youtuber. Some good, some bad, some very rude but it does give us an opportunity to discuss and review what was being said. As always, I welcome all of your comments and thoughts and would genuinely love to know where you stand. I also have to add that whilst I watched the full documentary, this will be not a complete review. I will not be talking about everything she mentioned or talked about. I only have picked up and wrote down a few things which I find interesting. I am not a professional, nutritionist, doctor, fitness guru or health guru. I am just a random girl on the internet. Grace immediately questions the qualifications. ( 1.40 min into the video ) What qualifications do they all have to be promoting a diet ? Are they trained ? ( she drops a few names so you …

Are you doing enough for the animals ?

Hi Everyone, I had a super nice vegan chocolate cake recipe planned for today but something happened. It made me upset and I thought that it was important enough to share. If you have a look at my previous articles on my vegetarian lifestyle, you can see that I am a very positive person. I do not get into heated and pointless arguments with meat eaters, vegetarians & vegans and stay away from extremists. For me, being a vegetarian is taking care of myself (my mind & my body), paying attention to what I eat but also making my world a better place, going to sleep knowing that I am not participating in the continuation of meat production. Some people will argue that you are not doing enough or not doing the right things. Let’s rewind back a little, to this afternoon in Paris. I went out shopping and got home early to discover that my dad had bought a good supply of veggie nuggets for me. I did the usual young adult things and checked out several social media …

Make Your Own Shampoo

Hey everyone ! I hope you are all doing amazing. Today is Wednesday and I am just beyond excited. I love being back in Paris because I can shop and turn my home into a spa with my sister. She always takes great care of her hair AND has also recently decided to throw away all of her makeup and replace it with cruelty-free brands  which made me very happy. I am glad that she read my article about it and I also recommended her a video that really shook me up : Gigi Hadid’s Beauty Secret . The video is under one minute and free of graphic content if you feel like checking it out. Yesterday was a sunny day in Paris and we went to our favorite store to buy some well-deserved hair care products. Among the products, we also bought everything you need to build your own shampoos. My sister is definitely the expert and got every girl in the family into it. I ended up making three shampoos for my sister and I with essential oils. Here is …

Crispy Potato Tart Goodness

Today, I had no time to cook during the day but decided that I would make something special for dinner. I actually had the idea from my mom who complained earlier that she was not eating enough carbs. Challenge accepted (I yelled in my head) ! Time for an amazing potato tart filled with good fat and carbs. I usually buy my dough. I found a good and cheap gluten-free crust that I thought I could try with this recipe. 5 potatoes 2 onions  Basic Tart Dough Salt & Pepper and Olive Oil  Thym & Crushed Garlic  This recipe is easy to make and will satisfy everyone’s craving. It does not contain eggs, cream & cheese. Thinly Slice your potatoes and Onions. Throw them in a pan with some olive oil, salt & pepper & a glass of water. Whilst you preheat your oven, transfer your dough and press it into your tart pan. I like to prick the dough with a fork as well. When your potatoes and onions have softened, gently everything into the …

5 mistakes I made going vegetarian

Going vegetarian and vegan for the first time is everything but easy. Very few people can change diet and lifestyle overnight. After all, you are finally paying attention to your meals and will have to be more conscious about your choice of food. I read a lot about it when I first turned vegetarian. To tell you the truth, I went from pescatarian, to chicketarian to finally fully vegetarian. I wanted to become one very badly but was still learning how to replace ingredients. I know this is no excuse but where I lived at the time had next to no vegetarian and vegan options. I ate too much of the wrong food. I ate way too much, cakes, bread and candies without gelatin because I was starving. I knew what I was allowed to eat and not eat but had not figured out what I needed to have a fully nutritious diet. I was drinking too much soda to fight the hunger. Especially diet sodas to cut my appetite. I was eating the same thing every …

Quick and Easy 5 ingredient Meal

It took me ten minutes, from chopping my peppers and wild mushrooms to constructing my amazing pittas. You will need : Two peppers ( £0.85 – pack of three at Tesco ) A pack of wild mushrooms ( £2.00 – pack of wild mushrooms at Tesco )  A pack of Falafels ( £1.00 – 300g of Falafels at Tesco ) 2 Whole wheat pitta bread ( £0.50 – 6 pittas at Tesco ) Optional : A teaspoon of garlic paste I chopped all of my ingredients first and threw them all in the pan with a cup of water, salt and pepper, olive oil and a teaspoon of garlic paste. I then added my falafels to the mix as I like them just a bit warm but still firm. I stir everything until the vegetables have softened , about 3 to 5 mins and voila, the job is done. I open up my pittas and put the mix inside. I like to have two sauces on the side : Tzaziki or/and Mustard. It’s amazingly easy …

Grocery Shopping when You’re Broke

Today is grocery shopping day for me. I usually don’t have a specific day but I have figured that if I spend money at the beginning of the week on groceries, I will have less money to spend on overpriced coffees and multiple scrunchies. London is super expensive. Not a newsflash to anybody I know, but like any young adult, I had to learn to manage my money when I moved out of my parents place two years ago and learn how to budget. I have also learned to buy useful food first. Food that I can store for a long time and that will last a long time. I spend around £35 for two people a week on groceries. I cook all my meals at home. I make sure that most of what I buy can be used in loads of different meals, which gives me lots of options for my cooking. I often cook more than necessary to make sure I have enough for diner and maybe save the leftovers for tomorrows lunch. …

10 Songs To Dance To While You Cook

Today I stumbled upon a great article about chefs listening to heavy metal whilst cooking. Not that I consider myself to be a great chef or even a chef at all, but I do enjoy listening to music whilst I cook. I have a strong preference for happy beats and songs that will make me dance around the room. My lifestyle allows me to make lunch and diner at home about every other day. Since I make everything myself, it can sometimes take a long time and I find music to be a great inspiration and it helps the time pass. I have dozens of playlists in my Spotify for every occasion possible and often spend two to three hours a day adding songs to my playlists. The following songs are by far my favorite and have definitely been overplayed in my kitchen. Ray Charles – I’ve got a woman Lukas Graham – Drunk In The Morning Mase – Feel so Good  Nappy Roots – Good Day Eliza Doolittle – Skinny Genes La Femme – Sur …

10 Quick and Easy Portable Healthy Snacks

When I am out, in between breakfast and lunch, I like to have something in my bag or something to snack on. I prefer having a light snack before and after working out to prepare myself for a bigger meal later in the day. Hummus with carrot sticks combo. Pretty standard I know. Hummus also goes super well with celery and cucumber. I have noticed that Tesco has also started to sell this super healthy snack. If you do not like hummus, dip your vegetables in Tzatziki. Peanut butter and raspberries. I personally prefer peanut butter and raspberries over peanut butter and apple which seem to be a classic. The crunch of the apple and the smoothness of the peanut butter creeps me out. Am I the only one ? Nuts. All of them. A handful with your tea or in your Tabbouleh or Salad maybe ? Wasabi peas. They are quite high in calories but are full of fiber and proteins. If you do not like wasabi, you can also try Salt or vinegar chickpeas/ Toasted …
